A friend recently shared a book with us that is a joy to read from the beginning. It's "Window on the World," by Daphne Spraggett and Jill Johnstone. What looks like a coffee table book on world missions is actually a tour of people groups that are currently being reached with the Gospel that need our prayers. Each two page spread gives a thumbnail sketch of the land and it's people and includes a brief, intimate excerpt from someone's life. It makes you want to stop what you are doing and pray right then. And that's exactly what I did.
Although this has little to do with praying in Gainesville, it does put our own struggles in perspective. My hope is that it will encourage our local readers to become more likely to pray for the spreading of the Gospel all over the world. Then, perhaps, they will spare one hour each month to join us in the ORT prayer initiative for our own city.
This day had no Church to sponsor 24 hour prayer. If you are a member of a congregation, please consider talking to your pastor about encouraging your fellow members to get involved. Tell him you will organize it and attend whatever meetings are necessary. Remember, this is supposed to be a blessing to him, too!
