Ambivalence and inactivity

First I want to thank Fire of God Ministries for sponsoring this day with 24 hour prayer!

"For if the trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself for the battle?" 1 Corinthians 14:8

One of the 7 spheres of influence we pray for is Government. We have a roll to play in our government that the Apostles did not have to contemplate because theirs was not a system of self-government. The only roll they had to play was that of supplicant: "Please, could you maybe oppress us just a little bit less?" This is not the system God has given us here in America, although the church is about as compliant as the early Christians.

Not all Christians are inactive and aloof from our political system. Some have very strong feelings. They are even on opposite sides of some important issues. I believe that one of the reasons this happens is because we divide up early and then never discuss anything with people unless they are already in our camp. This is a great tragedy. I believe the church should be willing to seek the truth and the will of God together instead of merely demonizing one another at a distance. But few church leaders are willing to let such a messy process take place.

I have strong feelings. I have Christians brothers and sisters with whom I have strong disagreement. But I do admire people who have strong enough convictions to ACT on them. As it says in Revelation, "So then because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth." It is the lukewarm, the indecisive, that the Lord finds most revolting.

My prayer today is that we will overcome ambivalence; that we will dare to examine our beliefs and choose what we will live by. We have City elections coming up in January, and about 85-88% of people do not care enough to use their God-given privilege. They are content to let a small number of people choose for them.
